"Give Me That Old Time Religion"

Welcome to Appalachian Gospel

Give me that old time religion!  Yes brothers and sisters, the Appalachian Gospel church service could come to your church. The Appalachian Gospel service is a re-creation of a typical 1950s service in the Shady Grove Church located in the mountains of East Tennessee.

The service is a "Sing" where the congregation (audience) is led in singing traditional hymns such as Bringing in the Sheaves and When the Roll is Called Up Yonder.  Interspersed in the Sing, the small "Choir" (complete with banjo, fiddle, guitar, etc.) performs traditional Bluegrass Gospel Music favorites such as Are You Washed In The Blood, I'll Fly Away and Life's Railway to Heaven.  Since the preacher only comes one Sunday a month and this isn't the Sunday, one of Shady Grove's deacons will fill the preacher's time with Gospel Storytelling.  The "Deacon" will tell a story about Jesus from the Gospels.
